Dougall Paulson Studio
Sean Dougall and Andrew Paulson

Sean Dougall and Andrew Paulson together form a multi-disciplinary art and design studio, Dougall Paulson. Starting out in a renovated lightbulb factory in Los Angeles and now based in North Carolina, and using traditional LeClerc multi-shaft floor looms, their stunning woven designs incorporate silk, and a variety of metals – including black steel, bronze, brass and nickel alloys and sterling-silver-plated brass – encased in glass for bespoke sculptural art and furnishings that transform spaces and glow with light. No two projects are ever the same.

Featured in Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, NYTimes Style Magazine, and WST Magazine, and now part of the Crave Collection, their woven pieces are in demand for high-end commercial, hospitality, and residential projects on five continents, including Chanel boutiques in Beijing and Paris, The Ritz-Carlton, and Raffles.
“Completely customizable, each project begins as a conversation in color, structure, composition, and effect, ensuring that no two projects are ever the same. Coupled with a sculpture practice employing cast bronze and one-of-a-kind expressions of ceramic and glass, Dougall Paulson’s unique take on site-specific installations is the starting point for the creation of objects that straddle the fine and decorative arts.”

Here they’ll talk a bit about how they grew and developed their design practice, the challenges of weaving with metal, and what inspires them to keep exploring and moving forward.
