Anya Molyviatas

Woven on a 40-harness AVL dobby loom, Austin textile artist Anya Molyviatis’ three-dimensional pieces merge the art of textiles and the patterns and structure of architecture into beautiful color gradients.
“I started my career by studying sustainable architecture because I was fascinated by the relationships between humans and the spaces we inhabit.”

Her pieces not only explore complex woven structures with different textures of fibers, they have acoustic properties. See a video created for her first solo exhibit in 2023.
Anya has two upcoming exhibitions, including one in Austin - another solo exhibition at Ivester Contemporary on Springdale Road from October 19 to November 23rd. The guild has arranged a group field trip to see the exhibit on Saturday, October 26th at 10 a.m.
Born in Geneva, Switzerland, Anya Molyviatas has spent her life traversing urban and wild landscapes throughout Europe and North America. After graduating from Aiglon College in 2013, she moved to the United States to study sustainable architecture in California. During her studies she completed a permaculture design course, opening her eyes to the potential of natural systems as well as textile properties.
She moved to New Mexico to apprentice with a master weaver and subsequently earned her BFA in Fibers at the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2021. With color gradients, weaving structures, and materiality, she now shapes space into one with depth and motion, seeking answers to our questions of well-being by the power of interconnection.
Anya currently lives and works in Austin, Texas. www.anyamolyviatis.com
