Degrowth Through Natural Dyes
Cara Marie Piazza

Cara Marie Piazza has been doing bespoke, natural dyeing for fashion, interiors, and art for the past decade. Using techniques ranging from solid dyeing, hand painting, shibori, batik and bundle dyeing, to the creation of ombre effects, her creations have seen multiple runways in collaboration with fashion designers.

Cara is the owner of Calyx Studios in New York city, a multidisciplinary creative agency that offers small scale natural dye applications and installations for fashion, interior design, and the arts along with licensing artworks for digital recreation with low impact dyes. For production orders, they collaborate with Botanical Colors, a leading natural dye house in the U.S. that offers custom color development packages for sampling as well as scalable production runs for garment dyeing.

In this presentation Cara will talk about her work with natural dyes, her design aesthetic, and how an approach to textile production that prioritizes well-being over growth at all costs can be both sustainable, both for the artist and the planet.

Cara Marie Piazza is a NYC artisan textile designer. As owner of Calyx Studios, she works with both designers and artists to realize their natural dyeing needs as well as creating custom pieces for private clients. Cara also teaches natural dye workshops, curates unique experiences merging healing, color and art.
