The Art of Weaving Unraveled Sweaters
WSSA member, Pam James

Join us in unraveling old items for yarn while Pam shares with us the woven art she’s created with reused fiber. She’ll also give us valuable tips on how to best unravel a sweater to recover the yarn to weave or knit with. Whether you are drawn to the environmental reasons for doing so, or have a vintage bit of clothing you want to turn into a wearable, this presentation will make you look at random yarn in a new way.

See guidelines for choosing a sweater to unravel during the presentation.

WSSA member Pam James has been weaving for almost twenty years, almost exclusively with recycled and thrifted yarn. Her article, “Upcycle Sweaters Into Yarn” was published in Handwoven magazine in 2018 and she’s taught at the Contemporary Handweavers of Texas Conference, as well as leading a study group for WSSA.
